Getting A Bite Out of Vodka- Ginger Martinis
Courtesy of a friend, PR Whiz, Greg Brooks who recently spent a lot of time in Sweden and all sorts of places since August, he was relating to me that he almost never drinks martinis but had one in recent days that was really tasty and unique- a Ginger Martini.
He couldn't figure out the recipe nor did he ask for one when he had it. He thought that the vodka was Ginger Vodka which was a new one on me. (Anyone know of a brand that features that flavor? If so, email me!)
Being an amateur mixologist, I emailed him back and said I could come up with one which involved adding ginger root to your favorite vodka and let it sit for a couple weeks. (this is not for making a ginger martini today!). The longer it steeps, the sharper the ginger "bite". I then suggested mixing it with a bit of ice and grated ginger root and since it was about 6 AM I wasn't thinking of a mixer for the martini but something with serious alcohol kick- more like a sipping martini, not one you could toss back.
Greg went farther with my riff and found a website that features the recipe for this enchanting brew. Turns out people drink them in summer. I think you could do this in fall or winter for holidays if you took the sweet & sour down a bit and added a hint of brown sugar to it for a "gingerbread" taste. Here's the video that tells you how to make the Ginger Martini

Here’s a simple recipe with few ingredients, but it looks good, tastes great and it’s actually good for you. It’s called a Palm Purple Martini, but you can trick it out however you want :4oz Purple 2oz Ketel Citron Splashes of Triple Sec and sour mix. Fill a shaker with 1/2 cup ice. Combine All ingredients; Shake and Strain into a large chilled martini glass This has been a big hit for me when I had friends over (I love to cook and entertain) and I bet anyone would like this. Oh, and Congratulations on your Big Day! (more Purple recipes: http://www.drinkpurple.com/our_product_mixology.htm Have I mentioned that I love this stuff? Lol..
Try it and let me know.
