Individual – Recycled – Freeway Bags
Freitag is the German word for Friday – which is one reason why I love my Freitag messenger bag. Yes, I am the proud owner of one – which costs me quite some money and effort.
Money because the Freitag Lab is located in Zurich, Switzerland and effort because it was even hard in Germany to get one of those bags. As soon as a new load hit the stores they were already sold.
Yes, they are very popular in Europe and are a similar phenomenon like Zo or Timbuk2 bags from San Francisco.
The 2 brothers and bike-riding designers Markus and Daniel Freitag were living close to the Autobahn in Zurich. One day they thought it would be nice to have a custom messenger bag made from one of those old dirty 100,000 miles truck tarpaulins.
It would be unique, made only from recycled materials, and because tarps are tough and waterproof, the bag would be tough and waterproof, too.
And that is absolutely right – this bag is indestructible. Made out of recycled materials like truck tarpaulins, bicycle innertubes, car seat belts and used airbags makes this bag very exceptional. BTW the bags are still designed, cut by hand and packaged in Zurich…..
