Gyms are a great place to meet people. It happens all the time and I still know people from my gym membership and pilates studio days. There are plenty of gyms for adults and there are tons of programs for kids of all ages- except one segment- teens and tweens. Where do they go to hang out? These days it could be the mall, a friend's house or at school or at worst getting into trouble. With childhood obesity rising, the teens and tweens are at the biggest risk because of peer pressure and what they eat. The pressure to look good may keep them from eating or they eat the wrong things. "Working out" isn't cool- till now, thanks to 02 Max Fitness, a unique program created by
Karen Jahinsky that's specifically designed for tweens and teens ONLY! No little kids or parents allowed- it's a sanctuary of fun and fitness and a way to have a positive spin on getting fit with your own age group and make friends at the same time. Camaraderie never sounded- or felt- so good.

This new fitness concept that was featured in Feb 2007 IDEA magazine about Karen Jahinsky and her fitness concept for teens-a gym or HUB that is co-designed with the kids on the Teen Advisory Board for teens to work out, socialize, hang out, do homework, study, and get the support of trainers and Princeton Review tutors - all in a safe and healthy space teens can call their own. Think of it as a place within the community (and there will be more as it spreads across the country) where teens can gather and socialize in an environment that supports health, good nutrition, academic success, respectful relationships, and have all that in a safe environment with supportive adult trainers, tutors, and mentors- just not their parents. As it's been said, it takes a village!

The event is this Sunday September 30, at Beverly Hills High School. Check the image above for all the details The event will feature performances by L.A. teen hip-hop stars, soccer and basketball clinics, yoga and budokon classes, personal training, and lots of free drinks, samples, and other stuff from our partners, Fuze, SoyJoy, Lärabar, Naked Juice, Gamebar, Nike, American Apparel, Polar, QMotions, Neutrogena, Roxy and others. There's a 1-Mile Run-to-Rock starting right there at the school at 12:00 noon, and the Nike Trial Van will be there - more free stuff, and the kids (and the adults...) can try out any Nike shoes they'd like to try.

The website isn't fully functional but this is an exciting concept and one worth checking out if you have teens/tweens or know some (and who doesn't?) particularlly doing something over holiday breaks etc..
