Master Excel

Excel is a tricky piece of software to master. Most of us have used it, but few of us have truly unlocked its potential. There are so many fantastic tricks behind this software that will unleash productivity. First of all, it’s the best way to keep control of your accounts. If you’re running a small business, you need an accounts system that is simple and intuitive. Excel provides that, but only if you use it correctly. You can also use the system to delegate work, keep track of tasks, and manage workers. If you haven’t got the hang of it yet, try Training Connection’s Excel training classes. Trust me, there’s a lot to learn.

Set clear, concise goals

Successful people get to where they are by setting goals. They draw lines in the sand, and find out how to reach them. They key here is to set realistic, achievable targets. I like to use a three-tiered system. You set one or two big, audacious goals for the future. You then set a series of medium-term targets that will help you reach them. Finally, you break those down into daily objectives. In other words, what can you do every single day to reach your ultimate goal?

Keep a tidy desk

A tidy desk equals a tidy mind. It’s a rule I live by every single day, and I wouldn’t get very far without it! When your office or desk-space is full of clutter, it subconsciously distracts your brain. When the area is clear and tidy, you’re free to power through your work. At the end of every work day, take two minutes to clear your desk-space, and set everything up for the following day.

Get up early

Studies show that most of us are highly productive in the mornings. Those first few hours of peak attention are crucial, and it’s up to you to make the most of them. Some entrepreneurs have a habit of getting up at 5am or earlier to jump start the day. You can then start with some light exercise, or get straight on with the job. You’ll be surprised how much you can get done before 9am. It might just change your career for the better.

Keep meetings short

Finally, try to avoid long meetings. They drain your time, energy, and productivity. Worse, you come away with even more work on your plate! Set a ten minute maximum, and always come away with a decision.

Follow these tips, and you’ll instantly feel more productive. Best of luck!
